WHITAKER Steve Whitaker helps corporations and high-net-worth individuals understand and manage the risks and opportunities associated with the U.S. government. For Minneapolis-based U.S. Bank, Dr. Whitaker lobbies issues relating to the current overhaul of financial regulations and Federal contracts for financial services. For Boston-based Bose Corporation, he lobbies on issues relating to international trade, energy and e-waste, and patent law reform. Dr. Whitaker also helps high-net-worth individuals navigate the new regulatory and policy environment in Washington, DC, the “new Wall Street.”
Dr. Whitaker served as a professional staff member on the Ways and Means Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives. He currently serves on the U.S. Trade Representative’s Industry Trade Advisory Committee on Information and Communications, Technologies, Services, and Electronic Commerce. Prior to founding Whitaker Strategies, Dr. Whitaker served as senior policy advisor to the San Francisco-based law firm of Thelen Reid and Priest. He also launched the federal appropriations practice for DCI Group and founded the international trade practice group at Cassidy & Associates in Washington, DC.
Dr. Whitaker earned a Ph.D. from Emory University, an M.S.L. from Yale Law School, an M.A. from Johns Hopkins, and a B.S. from Bates College. He won a Fulbright Fellowship for dissertation research in Bologna, Italy. He has taught in the Graduate School of Public Policy at Pepperdine University, the Orfalea School of Business at Cal Poly, and the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies in Washington, DC.
Dr. Whitaker has led more than twenty business and marketing trips to Asia. He has lived with his family and worked in Italy for much of the past twenty years. Dr. Whitaker is fluent in Italian and French.
